Add-On Catheter Monitoring System
Ex Vivo Catheter

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Sepsis is the tenth most common cause of death overall in the U.S. Sadly, there is no commercially available test that actually detects the sepsis bacteria and current clinical protocols are simply a process of elimination.

When a patient presents with general symptoms of bacterial infection they are automatically given a broad spectrum of antibiotics. Only when that regiment fails and the patient worsens is septicemia ultimately diagnosed.

Unfortunately, in many cases it is too late, sepsis has an unusually high mortality rate because it initially presents with flu-like symptoms then progresses rapidly. Even where death does not occur some victims suffer severe organ damage and in many others amputations of limbs as doctors attempt to get ahead of the infection.

The introduction of Pepex’s lactate trend monitoring system, either as an add-on catheter device or as a short duration indwelling device will facilitate the potential for earlier intervention.
